How long does it take Invisalign to work?

Straight teeth have many benefits. For example, they look gorgeous and are easy to take care of. That is one of the reasons that more than 4 million Americans get braces each year.

Conventional braces were a lot of work. Patients had to live with metal clutching their teeth, which did not look very pleasing. Then came Invisalign- one of the most sought and popular orthodontic treatments for people who want straight teeth and a beautiful smile.

In 2021, Over 10 million patients, including 2.6 million teenagers, started treatment with Invisalign – the world’s most advanced transparent aligner system. These braces are both discrete and sanitary, making them a popular choice among patients across America.

How long does Invisalign take to align the teeth?

Invisalign eliminates the brackets and wires of traditional braces for teeth straightening. Instead, a series of custom-made trays are used to shift the teeth gradually into their best position.

Patients generally wear each tray for four to six weeks before switching to a new one when the current tray is no longer extended and fits the mouth perfectly. The number of trays a patient must wear will vary depending on the original position of the teeth and how far they must move.

Invisalign trays are designed meticulously based on a series of molds taken by the dentist at the start of the treatment. Patients can then continue wearing the trays until their teeth are completely straight.

Duration of the process

Your dentist or orthodontic specialist may advise you to continue wearing your trays even after your teeth reach the final straightening position to help retain the shape. Most people take about a year to complete this process if they strictly adhere to their dentist’s instructions.

Patients might not notice a difference in their teeth right away. However, the results usually become apparent around the third or fourth month of wearing Invisalign trays.
